On a high-volume wire-harness line, the seconds spent reaching for scissors add up fast. Hand-tearable cloth tape removes that step entirely: operators wrap the loom, snap the tape by hand, and move on. Across thousands of harnesses a shift, that single change is one of the highest-return improvements a plant can make.
Where the savings come from
- Cycle time — no tool pick-up, cut, and put-down between wraps.
- Consumables — no blades to replace, no cutting mats to wear out.
- Safety — removing blades from the line reduces laceration risk and the associated downtime.
What separates a good grade from a cheap one
A quality hand-tearable tape tears straight and clean across the width, with no loose threads left hanging (anti-fraying), yet it still holds firm once applied. Cheap grades tear on a diagonal or shed fibres that foul the harness. The right balance comes from the weave density and the backing treatment — not something you can judge from a datasheet alone, which is why EJOY sends free samples so your operators can tear it themselves before committing.
It's not one product — it's a property across the range
Hand-tearability is available across the full automotive temperature spread (LV 312 T1 cabin looms through T3/T4 under-hood zones). You do not trade temperature class or abrasion performance to get it; you specify it alongside them. A typical request reads: "hand-tearable PET cloth tape, LV 312 T3, 19 mm."
Who uses it
Automotive Tier-1 harness makers are the biggest users, but any operation that wraps cable by hand — appliance wiring, industrial control panels, e-bike and EV sub-assemblies — benefits from the same time saving.
How EJOY helps
As a full-chain manufacturer we control the weave and coating in-house, so hand-tear behaviour is consistent roll to roll. We supply hand-tearable grades in custom widths and colours, with free samples for qualified buyers and OEM/ODM development on request.
