The need: You have to re-source or dual-source a harness tape and the quotes you get back differ by 40% with no obvious reason. Here is the information that makes them comparable.
Harness tape quotes diverge because the RFQ left the grade open. “Cloth harness tape, 19 mm” can be answered with a PET grade, a fleece grade or an acetate grade at three different prices, and all three suppliers are quoting honestly.
Four lines close most of the gap: the LV 312 temperature class, the abrasion class with its mandrel diameter, the backing, and width plus annual volume. The mandrel is the one buyers omit and it is the one that moves the price — the same tape measured on a 5 mm mandrel and on a 10 mm mandrel reports two different classes.
EJOY quotes against the four lines above and says which evidence exists for the proposed grade and which your own trial would still have to establish. Weaving, coating and converting are published by the manufacturer.

Soft PET fleece wrap that kills squeaks, rattles and vibration noise in vehicle interiors — also sold as felt, flock or anti-squeak tape.
ExploreTemperature class plus abrasion class and the mandrel diameter the class is measured on. Without the mandrel, two quotes can cite the same class and mean different things.
Cabin, dashboard, engine bay and against-engine are four different grades. Say where the bundle runs.
Data sheet, LV 312 test report, IATF 16949 certificate of the manufacturing site, lot traceability procedure, change-notification procedure.
Same harness, same fixture, same inspection criteria, both lot numbers recorded. Samples ship free, so this costs you time rather than money.
Because “harness tape” is a category, not a single grade. Until the RFQ names the temperature class, the abrasion class with its mandrel, the backing and the volume, each supplier picks the grade that fits their stock and quotes that.
The same four lines in both RFQs: LV 312 temperature class, abrasion class with mandrel diameter, backing, and width plus annual volume. Add the document list and you can compare on more than roll price.
Data sheet with backing and adhesive system, the LV 312 report naming class and mandrel, the IATF 16949 certificate of the plant that actually makes the tape, the lot traceability procedure, and the change-notification procedure.
Qualify the second source against the same written criteria you used for the first, on the same harness variant, and keep both lot numbers in the record. Tell us the incumbent's parameters and we quote to those rather than to a catalogue grade.
A rattle complaint has come back from the field and you need a damping tape sourced, validated and released before the next build. Here is what the supplier needs from you.
See recommended tapeThe drawing calls for an under-hood abrasion class and you need a tape quoted against it, with evidence an auditor will accept. Here is what to specify.
See recommended tapeYour EV programme needs the orange high-voltage wrap released, and purchasing has to produce the compliance evidence alongside the price. Here is how to ask for both.
