PET is the workhorse and covers most of a vehicle. Polyamide costs more and is worth it in a minority of places — knowing which places is the whole job.
| PET (polyester) cloth tape | Polyamide (nylon) cloth tape | Why it decides the order | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abrasion | Good; typically Class C territory | Highest; the choice when Class D is demanded | Ask the drawing for the abrasion class before comparing price. |
| Flexibility | Good | Exceptional — conforms to tight, moving routes | Where the loom flexes repeatedly, polyamide outlasts PET. |
| Temperature | Suits LV 312 T3 (125 °C) duty | Comparable to higher, grade dependent | Temperature is rarely the reason to switch; abrasion is. |
| Tensile | Strong | Stronger | Matters on routes that get pulled during assembly. |
| Cost | Lower | Noticeably higher | This is why you zone the harness rather than wrapping it all in polyamide. |
| Typical use | General under-hood and body routing | Extreme friction points, aerospace and defence drawings | Most looms need both, not one. |
Specify PET for the bulk of the loom and polyamide only where the drawing calls Class D, where the route flexes constantly, or where an aerospace/defence spec names it. Wrapping the whole harness in polyamide is money spent where PET would have lasted.
Not sure which side your application falls on? Send EJOY the temperature, the media and the width you need — we will say which grade applies and ship free samples before you commit to volume.
When the drawing demands the top abrasion class, when the route flexes repeatedly, or when an aerospace or defence specification names polyamide. For general under-hood routing PET is normally sufficient.
Yes, and it is the usual way to control cost: polyamide only on the high-friction sections, PET elsewhere. Send EJOY the route and we quote both.
Grade dependent. Tell us the class your drawing requires and EJOY confirms which grade meets it before you order, with samples.

Superior flexibility and mechanical protection where PET isn't enough.
