The need: You are buying tape for a production or a rental inventory and need residue-free performance across surfaces you do not own. Here is what to specify.
In production the cost of a tape is the damage it leaves behind. Residue on a rented floor, a painted wall or a hired lens is a charge against the job, so clean removal is the specification and roll price is secondary.
What a supplier needs is the surfaces you apply to, how long the tape stays on, the temperature near the lamps and whether the requirement is marking or true blackout — coloured gaffer and light-blocking tape are different products bought for different reasons.
