The need: A tape on an oily application keeps failing and you need to re-source it. Here is what a supplier needs from you to quote the right grade.
If a tape is failing in oil, the replacement spec has to name the fluid. "Oil-resistant" covers lubricating oil, grease, hydraulic fluid and cutting coolant, and a grade built for one is not automatically right for another.
The second thing that decides the grade is when the oil arrives. If the surface is already oily at application, the adhesive has to wet out through contamination. If the oil arrives later as engine-bay mist, the bond only has to survive it. Buyers often leave this out and get quoted the wrong grade.
