Hot alkaline cleaning destroys more masking tape than any acid bath — and it is usually the stage nobody tested.
Alkaline degreasing runs hot, often with agitation or ultrasonics, and it attacks adhesives that handle acid perfectly well. In e-coat and plating lines it sits at the start of the route, so a mask that fails there never reaches the bath it was chosen for.
